Canada’s prog/psych/folk rockers BLOOD CEREMONY‘s distinct style of flute-tinged witch rock evolves from an infernal marriage of occult-inspired acid folk and vintage hard-rock riffing. Their sound bears witness to the heavy bands of yesteryear, fusing progressive rock elements with folk and an early ’70s downer vibe.
A celebration of Euro-horror, ’60s saturnalia and occult miscellanea, their 2008 self-titled debut album, was released to enthusiastic reviews. In 2009, Blood Ceremony completed a successful European tour supporting Brit doom legends Electric Wizard, including a show at Bristol Trinity Centre.
‘Living With The Ancients’, Blood Ceremony’s 2011 sophomore album – recorded in Chicago by Sanford Parker (Minsk, Corrections House) -, expanded on the group’s dark and regal sound. They hit the road in support of ‘Living With The Ancients’, performing at the prestigious Roadburn Festival and opening for GHOST on a 13-date North American tour amongst others.
2013’s third album, ‘The Elderitch Dark’ (mastered by Nick Blagona; Deep Purple, Rainbow) is a full-length paean to the darker corners of folklore and legend accompanied by vintage-style hard rock riffs, snaking bass lines and killer flute melodies. In the wake of its release, the band joined KYLESA on a six-week North American tour and co-headlining Rise Above Records 25th anniversary show in London, UK.
March 2016 saw the release of fourth album, ‘Lord of Misrule’, before a return to Roadburn Festival and now, a 2017 return to the UK including their first visit to Bristol since their fantastic Temples Festival set, where they played right before headliners Electric Wizard and Brutal Turth.
Don’t miss this rare chance to catch Blood Ceremony’s first full Bristol headline in the very intimate confines of The Louisiana.
