Friday 31st March @ Exchange + Stag & Hounds, Bristol
Doors: 7pm – late*
L.A.’s Big Business L.A.’s Big Business need little introduction. From headline and matinee shows at The Croft (R.I.P.), to opening for Mastodon at the O2 Academy, not to mention their much loved visits to Exchange as members of (the) Melvins, Big Business have become somewhat a staple of Bristol’s alt/metal scene and we are honoured to have them headline Friday night as part of their ‘Command Your Weather’ 2017 tour. Expect loudness, that powerhouse low end attack, that signature vocal and boundless energy – we cannot wait to have them back in Bristol.
Atlanta, GA noise merchants Whores. have quickly become infamous Stateside thanks to their crushing live shows and no-holds-barred punk rock attitude. They have toured alongside the likes of (the) Melvins, The Sword, Deafheaven, Floor and most recently just completing a Dec 2016 US tour with Red Fang and Torche. Their debut full-length, ‘Gold’, is one of our favourite records of 2016 and we are pleased to have them join us at Effigy on their first trip to the UK. If there’s two bands you NEED to catch in 2017, Whores. and Brutus (see below) are them. You really don’t want to miss this.
We are stoked to finally be bringing Brutus to Bristol. Hailing from Belgium, their unique fusion of melodic hardcore, post-rock, blackgaze and pop sensibilities has made Brutus one of the most exciting bands we have heard and had the distinct pleasure of seeing live in recent years. Their upcoming debut album, ‘Burst’, is out this February on Hassle Records and already gaining critical praise from the likes of TeamRock, Kerrang! and NME amongst others. Trouble comes in three. So does Brutus.
Following an excellent set at The Fleece opening for legendary Japanese alt metallers Boris and at our Math Weekender back in September, we are pleased to have Worcestershire based The Broken Oak Duet back for another masterclass in math soaked riffage.
Last seen in Bristol at Temples Festival 2015, Cornwall’s skull de-constructors, Monolithian, return with their fuzzed out, blackened doom metal. Having shared bills with the likes of Napalm Death, Eyehategod and Conan, Monolithian, fly the flag for heavy at Effigy 2017.
*Please note when making travel arrangements, that bands will be playing beyond 11pm.
